With so many skin rejuvenation options in the cosmetic industry, the demands for non-surgical treatments, natural-looking results, and less downtime are increasing. At Pulse Skin & Laser Clinic, we combine all of these into one safe and effective treatment – micro-needling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

What is Micro-Needling with PRP?

Also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy or skin needling, micro-needling is a minimally-invasive procedure utilizing microscopic needles that are moved across the skin using a handheld, pen-like device. At Pulse Skin & Laser Clinic, we use the EDerma Stamp, a trusted name in micro-needling.

As the needles penetrate below the skin surface, invisible microchannels are created in the skin. This process stimulates the production of new collagen in the skin, generating a fresh skin surface over time.

While this treatment is effective as a standalone procedure, at Pulse Skin & Laser Clinic we also combine it with PRP from the patient’s own body to create optimal results. Creating and infusing PRP is a multi-step process:

  • Prior to treatment, a small sample of the patient’s own blood is spun in a centrifuge, where it is separated into its separate components.
  • Plasma, the liquid portion of the blood, is infused with a high concentration of platelets during this process. While primarily responsible for clotting the blood, platelets also contain growth factors that can aid in the regeneration of skin and tissues.
  • Micro-needling opens the skin up and allows it to better absorb products. After the skin is needled, our medical team gently palpates PRP over treated areas, infusing it into the skin for maximum absorbency.
  • Once infused into the skin of treated areas, the PRP works by helping the skin generate new cells. It can also help improve skin circulation, restoring a natural glow.

Is Micro-Needling with PRP Safe?

Micro-needling is proven to be safe for most patients and skin types, with the most common side effect being a flushed or red appearance skin to a sunburn. As PRP is created from the patient’s own body, it is easily recognized and processed without major complications. Some contraindicating medical conditions may require further evaluation before treatment is approved, which will be discussed by our medical team during your consultation.
