PRP Hair Treatment for Thinning Hair

Are you experiencing increasingly thinning hair or a receding hairline? An innovative new treatment method can restore hair growth and bring back the volume and density of your mane. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, used for years to expedite healing in sports medicine, orthopedics, and oral surgery, has recently been found to promote hair re-growth. Nonsurgical PRP hair treatment is now offered at Pulse Skin & Laser Clinic in Mississauga. Contact us today and learn more about platelet-rich plasma therapy for hair loss.

About Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy

Human plasma contains platelets, a natural source of proteins called growth factors. These growth factors play an important part in the body’s healing response to injury. Platelet-rich plasma is blood that has been enriched with a high concentration of platelets. PRP is created by separating platelets from a blood sample, increasing their concentration, and mixing them back into the extracted plasma, making it 5 to 10 times richer in platelets. This plasma is injected into a wound or surgical site to accelerate tissue healing and the formation of new cellular growth.

PRP for Thinning Hair

Because of its ability to accelerate tissue regeneration and growth, it’s natural that Platelet-Rich Plasma would attract the attention of cosmetic surgeons. Increasingly, it has been used for facial cosmetic enhancement as well as hair restoration. PRP restores thinning hair by stimulating inactive and newly implanted hair follicles to an active growth phase. It is a good option for patients who are not candidates for transplant surgery, or patients who have recently undergone a hair transplant. PRP therapy is not appropriate as a stand-alone treatment for patients who have no hair; instead, it works best for male and female patients who are experiencing thinning hair.

The PRP Hair Treatment Process

PRP is created from your own blood, making PRP therapy a very safe procedure. To begin, your blood will be drawn and your high-concentration PRP will be created using centrifugation, a high-velocity spinning process that separates and extracts the platelets. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp to cause trauma to the dermis. This induces a healing process, which naturally calls growth repair cells into action. The highly-concentrated PRP is strategically injected into areas of the scalp where hair loss is occurring, and also applied topically. No aftercare is needed, and you can return to your activities immediately.

At Pulse Skin & Laser Clinic, We use a precise method for these injections with the use of the U225 Mesogun. The pneumatic power of the Mesogun separates this device from all others in the field. The added power allows faster injection as well as a faster needle movement. The Mesogun also has an innovative feature called needle syringe separation which is a process where only the needle and syringe move as one unit. This provides added stability and less vibration while injecting. There is also no dripping or waste of product therefore you’re getting the full use of the product. There is no pain and no numbing required with the Mesogun unlike other systems.

An additional benefit is that the mesogun can reduce any normal defensive response your body may show when it is injected. When delivering a treatment by manual needle, the pain and bruising that can occur at the site is connected to how long the needle is inserted. The U225 mesogun can make its injection with rapid speed, allowing it to perform a quick in-and-out before your body realizes what has happened. We use the U225 Mesotherapy Gun for PRP for both Facial Rejuvenation and Hair Restoration at our clinic. A very painless procedure for scalp and hair restoration.

Does PRP Work?

Individual results will vary, but preliminary studies show PRP does halt and reverse hair follicle thinning in many patients. The earlier treatment is initiated after hair loss begins, the better the results. Patients typically begin to notice a difference in 90 days, with full results becoming evident after a year.

The procedure is most effective in cases of androgenetic alopecia, or hereditary male and female pattern balding. It is also effective for patients with alopecia araeta and similar diseases that cause the immune system to attack hair follicles.
